Festive goodwill to GeeWizz has sparkled at Christmas
Christmas is always a time for giving, our incredibly generous local community could not have given more support to GeeWizz.
During a wonderful last few months, from the first ever Charity Pumpkin Patch at Hall Farm where an incredible £15,704 was raised to Global Enterprise Launch at West Suffolk College, to a carol concert, a quiz night, to Hatter Street and Newmarket’s Christmas lights switch on, to our GeeWizz Charity Christmas Shopping Day at FOLK Café and our Christmas Jumper Day, it’s been a whirlwind of charity giving.
Thank you doesn’t seem enough, to show our deep gratitude to everyone who has fundraised, donated and supported our FUNdraising.
It really does make a big difference to our mission in helping change many local lives.
To get us all in the Christmas mood, we were humbled to be involved in two Christmas lights switch-on events in consecutive days.
First up was Bury St Edmunds where we wanted to use the popular event to support independent retailers in our community.
For the first time ever, business owners in and around Hatter Street joined in with the late night shopping as well as organising a grand Christmas raffle for GeeWizz – raising more than £1,800.
The following night, our small GeeWizz team hot-footed it over to Newmarket where fantastic students from West Suffolk College organised bucket collections in aid of the charity. We are delighted to also announce that GeeWizz is the charity of the year for the Love Newmarket Business Improvement District (BID).
We were also supported by our great friends at RSM – who once again raised money for GeeWizz with a fantastic, fun quiz night – and Heritage Beauty in Bury who organised a fantastic Christmas Shopping Evening at Nowton Court raising £836.50 for GeeWizz.
A very touching evening was had at the wonderful Stowmarket Salvation Army Carol Concert – an event we were very proud to be part of that raised £2,128.14 – a simply glorious night was had by all, with one special charity generously giving to another.
A fashionable and festive fundraiser, one that raised a tremendous £1419.18 was organised by Clarkes of Walsham who hosted a Charity Christmas Shopping Event, where customers were able to enjoy purchasing fantastic products at fantastically reduced prices, on many of their leading clothing ranges.
The money raised from the sale of items and a fabulous raffle went towards our GeeWizz Bury Free Press Jasmine Appeal, supporting Jasmine Moxon, a six-year-old from Beck Row who suffers from Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy.
The newly opened FOLK Café at Fornham Business Court, Fornham St Martin, generously hosted a GeeWizz Charity Christmas Shopping day for the charity. Clarkes of Walsham their donated luxury brand clothing, with the range from Manor House Candles, Jardine of London Handbags, Sam’s Jam’s, Bespoke Embroidered gifts by Sarah Jane Designs and Luxury Christmas Paper by PAPIRetc, who each donated a percentage of their sales, bringing the amazing total raised to over £3,100 this total was helped by match funding from two wonderful volunteers Lisa Staines from Barclays Bank and Fiona Ellis from HSBC Bank.
Finally, over 30 generous local businesses took part in the first GeeWizz Christmas Jumper Day, each donating funds raised, with their staff donning their special Christmas Jumpers for the day.
GeeWizz charity maintains a clear ethos of 100% transparency, with significant control of their costs to ensure that every £1 donated or raised is carefully spent and focused on helping to change lives.
In order to maximise its support, the charity has a distinct focus and expertise in providing specialist equipment to children and young adults up to the age of 21, living in Suffolk, with life-threatening conditions, a disability or cancer.
GeeWizz is so proud to make a difference through purchasing specialist electric wheelchairs, bespoke-designed car seats, electric beds, mobility hoists and so much more, along with paying for much needed physio therapy.
GeeWizz adds so much magic to the lives of families living locally in Suffolk.
Gina, Crystal, Daisy and Tracy send the biggest heartfelt thank you, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
