GeeWizz, Suffolk based children’s charity, is delighted to announce that Sunrise an oil painting, on canvas generously donated by Maggi Hambling CBE has raised the splendid sum of £5,240 in an online raffle.
“We were thrilled to learn that we were the holders of the ticket drawn in the raffle and are so delighted to be the proud new owners of a painting by one of Britain’s greatest living artists” Robin and Pam, the lucky winners, said. “We are most grateful to Maggi Hambling for giving us the unique opportunity display one of her stunning works in our home and to GeeWizz charity for organising the raffle. It is all the more special knowing that proceeds will support their vital and ongoing work to help change the lives of vulnerable children and young people from across Suffolk.”
Proceeds from the raffle will fund the installation of a creative space and outdoor arts-related activities within the planned redevelopment, funded by GeeWizz, of the playground at Thomas Wolsey Ormiston Academy in Ipswich, Suffolk. The school is attended by children and teenagers, with special educational needs and high dependency disabilities. The existing school playground is currently inaccessible to pupils in wheelchairs.
“We are so very grateful to Maggi Hambling for donating her stunning painting to support the redevelopment of the playground,” Gina Long MBE, founder of GeeWizz, said. “In light of her strong, personal connection with Suffolk, we are delighted that Sunrise will leave such an important, lasting legacy to help nurture creativity, especially at a time when it is so important to provide the opportunity to learn and play safely outdoors”.
